There were two phenomenal defensive plays in this series. In Game 1 Carl Coffee pegged the strike zone from the right-field wall to get Joel Crozier out at home to end the inning and keep the game going in extra innings. Game 2 saw the first diving catch in the pool this season, as Nick Coffee leapt over the wall and splashed down to make a home run saving grab.

The Punchouts headed to “The Club” in Woodhaven for their final divisional meeting with the Seals. Both teams kept the score even at zero through 3 innings. Manchester took a 2-0 lead in the 4 th inning with a 2 run homer by Bortmas. Manchester scored 5 more runs in the 5 th with a couple defensive errors helping their cause. The Seals were able to score 2 runs in the bottom of the 5 th on a base hit and a fielder’s choice. But it wasn’t enough to hold off the #9 nationally ranked Punchouts as they take Game One 7-2. Sam Hatt earned the win and Greg Franzen took the loss.

Game Two started out quickly for both teams. A 3 run homerun and 2 run homerun both hit by Bortmas put Manchester up 5-0 in the 1st inning. The Seals were patient at the plate and were able to get two of the runs back on a 2 RBI double from Greg Franzen. The score was 5-2 after the first inning. Again, it wasn’t enough for the Seals as Manchester poured it on in this game to end up winning 14-4 in 4 innings. Evan Bortmas earned the win and Chris Paquin took the loss.

Side note: The Seals were lacking their strong defense today with many players out for the games. Wind was a factor at “The Club”. It was hitter friendly rather than its normal pitcher friendly atmosphere. Evan Bortmas was strong at the plate, adding four homeruns in this series to his previous ten. The Seals did end up with a few small victories today. There were no perfect games or no hitters. The Seals broke up Manchester’s run record of 65-0 in their last 13 games against previous opponents with 6 total runs scored in this series. Great job by Manchester today. Thanks for your good sportsmanship and making the drive to come out and play us.
