Slow in the Snow

Slow in the Snow is happening this Saturday (2/16) after being rescheduled in January. Granted there is as little snow on the ground now as there was then, but this time we will go ahead and play no matter what. There is a chance of snow showers on Friday, with more possible Saturday. We are not sure if there will be any accumulation, so on Friday we will decide and announce where we will be playing. The whole idea is to goof off in dive-able,slide-able snow, so if there is decent snow on the ground we will play at the Wiffle Iron in Taylor as planned. If it is wet with no snow (read: muddy), we may move onto tennis courts, a roller rink, or some other solid ground TBD nearby. If there is no snow but the ground is dry, we will still play at the Iron.

Quick refresher: Slow in the Snow will be played with rules different from typical WSEM games. Foremost, it will be underhand slow pitch from 22' with the yellow bats. Also, bases will only be 40' since running in the snow is a challenge, The pitcher's circle will also be an 8' radius to make it easier for fielders. Also, the dead ball zone will be just 7' in front of home plate. There will be two strikes for a K, and after five balls a batter may walk or continue the AB; after eight balls the batter will be rewarded second base. King Friday, Holy Balls, the Islanders, Ducks, Belgian Wiffles, and El Diablos have thrown their hats in. If you had planned on going in January, hit up the event page again to let us know if you are still planning on attending.

Games will start at 11 am.

Final Results
1.  Holy Balls 4-1
2.  El Diablos 4-2
3.  Ducks 1-3
4.  Islanders 0-3
Update:  The Holy Balls took the Slow in the Snow championship against El Diablos, winning game two 37-24 after, in the words of beat reporter Nick Coffee, "El Diablos kill(ed) holy balls after only two innings 28-0" in game one of the championship. Those are big numbers, and big numbers and big blasts were put on display all day long by the Islanders, Ducks, Diablos and Balls. Nick Braden wins the "Snow Shu" for best pitcher, throwing a perfect game in the first round and pitching the Balls to the championship. You can check out Nick Coffee's tweets for game-by-game recaps.
