By the Numbers

First up, the Campus Commandos' lineup has been added to the site, and it's extensive at ten players!

Second, Git r Done has added three players to their roster, as well as chosen colors and a logo that might make them WSEM's team people love to hate, like the Yankees, though not at all like Yankees.

Thiiiiird, Carl's first article in his "Coffee Time" column is now up over on the Skinny. Topic? Numbers of course! And not just any numbers, but his rankings for the top 5 pitchers in WSEM entering our inaugural season!

One last number for you: we've upped the schedule to 28 games, 4 against each opponent.

Starting this week and running through February we'll be getting write-ups posted for each of our teams. Speaking of teams, we may be close to finalizing deals to sign on teams seven and eight for the inaugural season. No jinx!

The Skinny on... Getting Started

Our first piece is now up on The Skinny. It's a self-interview, an anecdotal talking history of the beginnings of Downriver Wiffle in 2005, the challenges, the bright-spots, the changes that have occurred over the years and how that all has developed Wiffle in Southeast Michigan into what it is today. Amusement and information, enjoy it. Here is the link. This first piece is a table setter for the future installments in the column, as we'll have weekly installments leading up to and throughout the season focusing on our teams, players, field design, highlight performances, and the stranger aspects of wiffle in general. Brandon and Carl will each be writing columns, but if you have something you would like to say or think people need to hear, let us know your idea and if you're making sense, we'll let you have a column for a week! The upcoming installments are slated to be on the always competitive, always fun to take the field with Wiffling DeLoppes, and some preseason prognostication about what the top pitchers will be bringing into league play coming off of last year's tournaments.

We hope you have some fun with these columns and get a little better acquainted with the league and everyone involved. Amusement and comradery are the point here: making Wiffle in Southeast Michigan great together, while engaged in friendly competition with one another. So, check out the Skinny, and get excited for Spring! ... And, of course, have fun with this!

Updates:

The site is coming together and the various sections are ready for content as the season approaches. Four Five Six team pages are up in the Teams section with rosters, 2009-2010 tournament records, statistics, and some photos of them in action. The Skinny is a page we'll use to throw some light on the finer things in wiffleball: field design, the curse of the host team, the question of why rookies always seem to fair so well, and therefore the merits of cold turkey vs. preparation, as well as other anecdotes and observations along the way. For now, there is a quick write up about the brand of wiffleball we play.

Schedule, Tournaments, and Standings pages will all get their content put up closer to opening day as it becomes available. The schedule page has info on preseason plans for April up now, and will keep a running list of dates/match-ups/locations in the right column, with weekly posts to highlight upcoming match-ups when the season gets underway.

So, flip through the site. See what's going on. Definitely check out the League Plan for the upcoming season below. Any input or interest you have, as well as any problems you come across, feel free to send them our way at sewifflemi@gmail.com [Also, the Email links found under "Contact" on all the pages have been fixed]. And as always, have fun!
